What is an Oxygen Concentrator?

An oxygen concentrator (also known as a home oxygen machine or O2 machine) is a device designed to deliver pure medical grade oxygen to the patient. Unlike oxygen cylinder, which attempt to do the same thing but possibly run out of oxygen and need to be refilled periodically, oxygen concentrators produce the pure oxygen by drawing on the surrounding air, converting the air in the room you are in into pure O2 molecules.

How does an Oxygen Concentrator work?

• Basically an oxygen concentrator works according to a 5 stage process:
• Capture of atmospheric air, by means of a compressor, causing the air to be absorbed by the equipment;
• Filtering the captured air, passing it through a cleaning process where dirt particles and bacteria are filtered out;
• Separation of the oxygen and nitrogen molecules. (At this stage, a mineral called zeolite silicate absorbs all the nitrogen present, so that at the end of the process only the oxygen molecules remain);
• Analysis of the oxygen produced. All the oxygen produced is analysed so that it has the required purity;
• Delivery of oxygen to the patient;
